Pegasus

Once, long ago, in the Age of Heroes, the beautiful Gorgon Medusa was changed, by a vengeful Goddess, into a fearsome deamon - her golden locks were turned to writhing snakes, her gaze to a thing of fear and dread: for all who now looked into her eyes were turned instantly to stone.

This monstrous creature was ultimately defeated by the valiant and ingenious Perseus who, having tracked her down, approached her by viewing her reflection in his polished shield: thus avoiding her fatal stare and rendering himself to deliver the final dispatching blow, parting her head from her shoulders.

The head, still empowered with its lithotrophic properties, was placed judiciously in a sack while from blood of the slain Gorgon's sprang the magnificent & noble beast Pegasus.

The stories and adventures which this noble creature survived are legion.

One legend tells of how Perseus rode to the aid of Andromeda who was to be sacrificed as a peace offering to the seamonster Kraken. By use of the Gorgon's head Perseus destroyed the serpent and won the hand of Andromeda.

These three - Pegasus, Perseus and Andromeda - were immortalised by the Ancients by their naming of three of the constellations in the night skies above Ancient Greece.

These castings are designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded marble, bronze and Cotswold stone. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real carved stone or sculpted terracotta. The resin sculptures are weatherproof, the plaques having a hole drilled in the back for easy hanging
